Hello Since I upgraded to OS X Sierra, I can not burn DVD/CDs anymore. I use a USB powered DVD/CD writer on an iMac. I keep getting error 0x8002002, which means that there seems to be a connection problem between the DVD writer and the Mac. I guess the 2 devices don't communicate with each other. The same error code seems to exist for a long time, but with no fix from Apple.
I can read discs though, but writing (even erasing a disc) will not workðŸ˜!! Can anyone verify this on their Mac? I am not able to erase or burn e.g.
You can create a disk image that includes the data and free space on a physical disk or connected device, such as a USB device. For example, if a USB device or volume is 80 GB with 10 GB of data, the disk image will be 80 GB in size and include data and free space. You can then restore that disk image to another volume. It is built into every Mac and it is easy as can be. Here is how to burn a DVD or CD on your Mac without any third party software.
Mp3 from the finder or itunes. But before restoring OS X El Capitan again, I wanted to make sure that this is a common problem Thanks for sharing your comments! If the optical drive can read but not write the problem probably lies with the burner or the DVD media you are trying to burn.
A communication fault would affect reading as well as writing discs. When your burn a DVD or CD the first thing that happens is that the DVD reader senses the disc type & write speed. If this fails you'd also get that error message. (Unfortunately computer error messages aren't always helpful.) Media can go bad, as can the LED that burns the disc, and the lens can become dirty. I suggest that you try a lens cleaner. If you have access to another computer try burning a DVD on it to check out your media. Finally, buy some new DVDs.
I seldom burn discs these days but I learned the hard way to buy no more than I could use in a 6 month period.
